GET OBD SCANNER.
Buy yourself an OBD scanner so you can read the error codes. Not expensive but useful. With reset function. So that you can erase errors.
DO NOT GET BELOW 30%.
Do not allow the fuel level to get below 30% in the fuel tank! Continuously keep more than 30% of fuel in the tank, since the pump is cooled by diesel, and if the fuel remains low the fuel pump can be overheated and damaged. ($700 to replace)
NEVER USE BIO DIESEL!
Get "ONLY DIESEL" STICKERS for FREE if you rent or lend your Sprinter, put 5 stickers "ONLY DIESEL #2" "no BIO DIESEL". *NO gasoline, only DIESEL #2". If refuel with gasoline and damage the fuel system, then fuel system replacement will cost up to $17K. By the way, It's good to have insurance from an ignorant renter. GET FREE "NO BIO DIESEL" STICKER FROM US.
SAVE YOUR TURBOCHARGER.
When you are traveling 20+ min on the highway, with a speed over 40 miles/hour, and if you end your trip or get to destination: NEVER STOP engine immediately!!! DO NOT turn OFF engine. You need at least have a 2–5 minutes in idling mode when you parked. What for? It must be until cool down the turbocharger below +300°C. When you engine uphill, your turbocharger gets red to orange hot, has 300,000 rpm and heats up to 600°C, your turbocharger will be minimum 10 min to cool down. If you don’t use this advice - turbocharger $3000. So cool down before stop engine.
BABUSHKA STYLE.
We have noticed that people who with a conservative squeeze all the juices have fewer breakdowns. Don’t try to ride with full acceleration on the roof of your van. A gentle rider will extend both your life and life of your sprinter.
ADD DEF & CHECK OIL LEVEL REGULARLY.
Never forget, add DEF Liquid! If you miss, you can break the def, so that system is very fragile. Check the oil level regularly - once every two or three weeks (in the new 2019+ there is no stick dipstick, everything is with a level) Regularly check whether there are oil leaks or liquids.
RODENT.
Rats and squirrels can seriously damage your car, chew through wires, and then it’s hard to find damage. If you park your Sprinter for more than two weeks, then you need to take steps to keep out wild animals:
Sprinkle with unpleasant composition under the hood.
We can install an ultrasonic repeller with LED lights.
Purchase rat poison.
get a cat
Leave the hood open overnight.
CORRECT PARKING.
Especially on an incline
Tilt the hand brake to the top (make sure that it is in "P" (parking brake and handbrake)
Switch on "P" Parking and Stop engine in 2 min.
JACK UP POINTS.
Never let a mechanic to Jack Up your car, placing a JACK under the rear axle or FRONT FRAME. NO, NO, NO! Never put jack under the rear differential. There are correct Jack points and it is not under the rear differential. They will damage the rear differential cover and oil will leak out due to the crumpled cover. Diff repair $3000+
ENGINE OIL.
For Sprinters After 2009 USE ONLY MB-APPROVAL 229.52 5W30 ! Remember, there is no correct oil for your van in the network of fast oil change shops. Because They Don’t Have The Proper Oil. USE ONLY MB 229.52 (ANY BRAND IS OK) Reject Oil Change Service If You DON’T SEE 229.52 ON OIL CONTAINERS. (By the way During a quick fast) oil change, a lot of old oil is left in the engine. It is bad. (It’s like when you drain all the old oil, wait for the last drop!)MOBIL 1 IS A GOOD OIL BUT USE THE BEST PREMIUM GERMAN OIL WITH MB-APPROVAL:LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC 4600 5W-30 or FUCHS TITAN GT1 FLEX 23 5W-30 229.52
TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE.
Most US shops and MB dealers leave half of the old fluid when changing transmission oil. For the reason they don’t drain the old tranny fluid from the torque converter.REMEMBER: Always drain all old fluid from the pan and torque converter when you changing transmission. Check the work of your dealer or service center - so that you will not be disappointed later.
Sprinter owners should smile and be positive...always... if possible
